i finally donated blood!
did you know that you can save up to three people's lives with just one unit of blood?

this was taken before the big moment, as i answered questions and had my blood tested for iron. i'm the biggest baby in the world, and even i'll admit, it wasn't bad at all. didn't faint. even received free pizza and refreshments. the staff is great, and they'll take excellent care of you.

As Alex Rodriguez gears up to play as an all-star this weekend, he’ll do so knowing that his marriage is all-but-gone.
Cynthia Rodriguez, the New York Yankees third baseman’s wife of almost six years filed for divorce on Monday. The papers end speculation of a marriage that has been on its last life since Us Weekly broke the story about A-Rod’s latest extra-marital affairs.
It’s fitting that the highest paid player in baseball would be tied to the ultimate “Material Girl.” Doormen at Madonna’s Manhattan apartment blabbed to the media about A-Rod’s late night excursions to Madge’s pad, leaving as late as midnight.
Murmurs about the Rodriguez rocky marriage began less than a year ago, when photographers snapped A-Rod hanging out with a buxom blonde in Toronto, wining and dining her before taking in the sights at one of T-Dot’s more prominent strip clubs.
But the extensive media coverage did not faze the Bronx Bomber then. A-Rod earned MVP accolades for the third time in his career that year. Meanwhile, his wife packed up and left their New York apartment, only to join her hubby on the road, while the Yankees were in Boston playing the Red Sox.
Cynthia again packed her bags after the latest front-page scandal, but she didn’t run to her husband. Instead, Lenny Kravitz opened the doors of his Paris home to the estranged wife. Kravitz then vehemently denied rumors that he and Rodriguez’s wife were any more than friends.
The situation is surely a complicated one for all parties involved, as well as Guy Oseary. He manages Rodriguez, Madonna, and Kravitz.
Alex and Cynthia signed a pre-nuptial agreement before their November 2002 marriage. In the divorce papers, Mrs. Rodriguez claims her soon-to-be ex is worth $250,000,000. She seeks custody of their two daughters, child support, debt-relief, and their six bedroom home in Coral Gables, FL.
GYM CLASS HERO GETS DETENTION
Here’s a bit of advice for anyone thinking about checking out the Gym Class Heroes later this month. The group from Geneva, NY headlines this year’s Vans Warped Tour, which rolls through the Toyota Pavilion at Montage Mountain on Sunday, July 27.
Don’t yell a racial slur at GCH front man, Travis McCoy. Of course, that’s also assuming McCoy makes the date.
At a recent Warped Tour stop in St. Louis, a fan in the front row called McCoy, “an ignorant n----r.” The lead emcee tried to bring the person on stage, so he could embarrass him in front of the audience. As the fan climbed on to the stage, he hit McCoy on his knee, which apparently has a brace on it. Travie responded by smashing his microphone on the guy’s head.
St. Louis police put their own “Cupid’s Chokehold” on the Gym Class Hero, booking him on third-degree assault charges. Authorities released McCoy on $500 bail, but TMZ reports that police have issued a warrant for his arrest.
Gym Class Heroes released a statement calling the incident unfortunate. McCoy issued a half-hearted apology, claiming the kid got what he deserved for the comment. No word from Katy Perry. The “I Kissed a Girl” singer and Warped Tour-mate is dating McCoy.

michael strahan loves the wong.
a source tells me that i'm not the only one that likes suzie wong's... recently-retired super bowl champ michael strahan and a few of his friends, including ozzie smith, charles oakley, and kenny lofton, all were downing shots of saki like water, while ordering 9 bottles of grey goose, along with patron and tequila.
apparently one woman, dancing with the sports stars, spilled her drink on strahan, staining his shirt. the next moment, she was trying to take it off.
saki clearly equals shamelessness...

He may not have won American Idol, but David Archuleta definitely won our hearts in the competition! Find out more about the singer now!
1. When was your first kiss?
I haven’t had a first kiss.
2. Who's your celebrity crush?
I don’t have a crush on anyone yet. I’ve always been against that because it's like you don’t even know who they are. It’s like when people have a crush on me, it’s just weird when they’ve never even met me. So for me to do that to someone else, it's kind of weird. I look up to Sara Bareilles, John Mayer, and Jason Mraz.
3. What's a girl fashion trend that confuses you?
I don’t get those really short skirts.
4. What's the girly movie you secretly love?
I only know of one, and it was good: A Walk to Remember. I hear so much about The Notebook, but I've never seen it. That's the one all the girls were like, "Aww!"
5. What's your TV guilty pleasure?
I like cartoons. I like Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. It's funny! It has things that kids wouldn’t get. It's like, if you're mature, you get it. I like that and The Fairly OddParents.
6. Who would play you in the movie version of your life?
I’m a pretty spacey guy, so it’d be funny to see how Robin Williams would act being me even though he’s old enough to be my dad.
7. What's your dream job?
To be doing what I am now, only more developed and have more experience in this. But this is my dream job, that's what's funny about it! I never thought I'd be here. I’m in the recording studio right now, just looking at the mics and the headphones and it’s crazy! If not music, I think it would be pretty cool to be an ear, nose, and throat doctor.
8. If you could trade places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?
I think Will Smith would be pretty cool. He's my favorite actor.
9. Who in your family are you closest to?
I’m close with all of them, really; it’s just all for different reasons. My mom is just someone who's easy to talk to and hang with. My sister, it's always cool to be able to help her out with things. My brother is fun when we're just joking and messing around. And my dad is someone who's helpful with my music and easy to talk to about that stuff because he understands me in that sense. So it's like different kinds of closeness with everyone.
10. What's your favorite Website?
I like iambored.com, YouTube, and I'm addicted to MySpace.
11. What's the fast food you can't live without?
Does Subway count? I love Subway. “Eat fresh!”
12. What's your worst habit?
Fidgeting with my hands, cracking my knuckles, and stuff like that. Or just spacing out; I'm good at doing that!
13. What's the last song you listened to on your iPod?
“Minnie the Mouse” by Sara Bareilles. I love Sara Bareilles. She's just so clever. I wish I were her. She's so awesome.
14. What's the last thing you bought?
I had to pay an overweight fee because my luggage was too heavy.
15. What did you dream about last night?
I dreamed I was in New York, and I was trying to get past security to get into a talk show to see someone perform (but I don't remember who). Security let me in because of my name, but it was weird. My friends were trying to sneak in, and it's like they had to walk across this glass staircase. It didn't make sense. I went but they didn't even stop me or anything. They just had me sign my name on like a job application. It didn't make sense; it was weird!
16. How much money is in your wallet right now?
I don't know. I don’t carry my wallet around. I usually keep it in one of my hidden drawers in my room at my house.
17. What's the best part of being 17?
There are a lot of good things! Being able to hang out with friends and do all the weird stupid things together. People don't usually do that unless they're this age. I love going to random coffee houses that are open late at night.

this week's ralphie report...
catch it wednesday in the weekender...
---
On Friday, R. Kelly joined the ranks of Michael Jackson, Phil Spector, and O.J. Simpson. Just as those high profile celebrities prosecuted before him, Kelly escaped with a “not guilty” verdict from a jury of his peers. The R&B crooner walked on all 14 charges against him of child pornography, which stemmed from a tape released in 2002 in which Kelly allegedly appeared to have sex with a minor.
“His lawyer actually said that he was crying like a baby,” TMZ’s Michael Hundgen told me later in the day on The Ralphie Radio Show. TMZ also reported that five jurors spoke after the trial and said they thought it was in fact Kelly in the film, but that “there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute.”
A major point of contention in the trial was the identity of the male in the aforementioned video. The female that prosecutors believed was on film would not cooperate with the trial, throwing the burden on the state to prove that the singer and an underage girl had sex in the film shown in court.
The initial indictments were handed down in Chicago back in June 2002. These charges were demoted from having sex with a minor to soliciting a minor for child pornography.
Since Kelly’s trials and tribulations became public, the singer’s popularity actually rose. He released five albums from June 2002 to 2008 – selling 11 million copies. Kelly also headlined a number of tours.
While the jokes and parodies will linger through radio, television, and YouTube – the fact remains that R. Kelly is now a free and innocent citizen – stepping in the name of love, or whatever else for that matter, without special stipulations from a judge.
MAYER MAKES A FUNNY
John Mayer loves cracking jokes with and on the media and paparazzi. Leaving a pharmacy last Thursday, the singer/guitarist carried a white package with writing under his arm. Photographers zoomed in on the scribble, which read, “experimental human growth hormone – 2x daily” with some type of signature or initial underneath.
Surely Mayer isn’t taking the same drug banned in baseball and used by such celebrities as Sylvester Stallone. Of course, maybe John is just trying to round Jennifer Aniston’s bases.
Speaking of the “Say” singer and America’s past time, Sports Illustrated recently weighed in on Mayer’s “resume” compared to that of New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. Between the two of them, the superstars have dated 11 women on Maxim’s 2008 Hot 100 list. The array of women is diverse – from Mariah Carey to Jessica Simpson, Gabrielle Union and Cameron Diaz.
Being a diehard Yankees fan, I might be a bit partial on even the most frivolous, non-baseball related topics. But really, who’s topping Jeter’s triple play of Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, and Jessica Alba?
CONDOLENCES…
Being born and raised in Western New York, I’d be remiss to not mention the passing of Tim Russert in this column. Russert became Buffalo’s first son for never forgetting his roots and embodying the blue collar work ethic he learned from his father, “Big Russ.” But the Meet the Press moderator also represented everything this country stands for – a dillgent worker who did his homework; a model father, son, and husband; and a man with endless heart and compassion for those around him.
Russert died while at work Friday. The NBC News Washington Bureau Chief just returned from Italy where his family celebrated his son Luke’s graduation from Boston College. Tim Russert was 58.

tim russert: buffalo (and america)'s native son.
simply put, it's a western new york thing.
when you grow up in or around buffalo, and leave for school or work, you take with you a number of strong convictions, vices, and believes.
the buffalo bills and sabres are your teams; wegmans is your supermarket; real chicken wings are not created equal; bison chip dip is the only chip dip; the goo goo dolls are the best rock band ever; jack kemp was a quarterback first, vice presidential candidate second.
and of course, tim russert was the pride of wny, and the authority on all things of which he spoke. western new yorkers essentially held russert in such high regards for the same reasons that most of america did: he embodied the blue collar mentality that his beloved father, "big russ", taught him while growing up in south buffalo. russert exhibited this in a number of different fashions - his unparrelled preparation when analysing campaign results or grilling politicians on meet the press, the lack of "gimmick" when on camera - he kept it real and kept it simple.
also, it seems russert's compassion and charity matched his intellect. you certainly know the type of legacy a man left behind when friends, foes, and collegues alike gather on national tv in the immediate aftermath of his death to credit not only russert the analyst, the journalist - but the father, son, and husband.
as a member of the media and a western new yorker, the passing of tim russert certainly struck a number of cords with me. last night when i took to the air here in northeast pa, i spoke briefly about the tragedy, but mentioned how it certainly put things in perspective - on personal and professional levels.
i have "formal training" in journalism - whatever that means these days to you. of course, i attended the newhouse school of public communications, and dual majored at syracuse university in broadcast journalism and marketing. so for me personally, to see a guy without a communications degree succeed to the level that russert did in television, is a sign that russert really, really knew his stuff. as we've learned within' the past 24 hours, apparently no one did their homework as well as russert.
but added to his accomplishments in television are his contributions to family life in america. his two best selling books certainly brought a new dimension and definition to the father-son relationship in this country. it brings about more sorrow that russert died right before father's day, after celebrating his son luke's graduation from boston college.
then again, maybe that's the way the man above planned it - so we could all remember and celebrate the legacy of tim russert throughout this father's day weekend. although i know my fellow western new yorkers and many more throughout the country will remember russert for a long time to come, whether we are sharing a special moment with dad or tuning in to political coverage of an election.
or maybe for us buffalonians, cheering on our beloved bills - hoping that tim is talking to the big man about maybe delivering a big win.

so apparently mary-kate and ashley olsen have a (not-so-much-anymore) "secret" to their trademark smiles.
...quick pause for you to grab a pen and paper. you could also get with the times and copy & paste.

personal musings...
- big thank you to everyone at geisinger for mending me up, and for bht for allowing me a sick night. cannot tell you how great i feel right now. by this time tomorrow i'll be all ready for this weekend - which is shaping up to be pretty fly!
- go buy the new coldplay and lil wayne cds - like yesterday. coldplay is my new favorite band. chris martin and the boys have released four straight dope LPs. much love. and lil weezy? dopest mc in the game, and he backs it up on this album. i love the way he handled this cd - the leaks, the mixtapes, all the different tracks/versions released. not only did weezy drop the biggest debut cd of the year in regards to sales, but i think he's set a new trend in the way major labels will look to market hip hop artists.
gonna go for a very abbreviated jog and run a few errands before popping in to the studio to get the big thursday night show in motion - be on the look out for a BRAND NEW segment at 10p - it'll be hot!
much love!
ralphie.

live from geisinger...
So I'm currently sitting less than a mile away from my apt. Cartoons are blaring obnoxiously loud over the TV sets as I wait for my name to be called.
Little did I know I couldve walked to my appointment this afternoon at the Kistler Clinic. Feeling awful and wouldn't be that fun to listen to tonight. Welcome D-Dubs with open arms tonight, he'll be filling in as I rest.
A nurse just called my name, hopefully this sore throat and fatigue is nearing a death.

and way more intriguing. but this is still amazing in a weird, awkward kinda fashion...
i'm sure justin did a million interviews in that dark room previous to this one, but can hollywood makeup artists not make someone look less tired?

is diddy a daddy again?
sean combs might have changed monikers, again. apparently he referred to himself as "puff daddy" in a recent myspace blog posting, only to change it to "p. diddy".
also on myspace, his cameo on the o'neal mcknight "check your coat remix" - where he also calls himself puff daddy.
does it even matter anymore? btw remix is okay - original beat was better - diddy's verse is nice.

i'm half-italian. i love tomatoes. but, not enough to eat the red fruit from mcdonalds...

apparently a recent salmonella break-out spurred the tomato recall. you say tomMATO, i say get outta here!
