photos from the weekend...

mo and i hit up the tomato fest in pittston. i was not impressed, for a number of reasons.

for starters: if this picture was taken after i took a bite, my thumb would've aimed in the opposite direction. it was my first and probably last dish of gnocchi in the commonwealth. gnocchi is my favorite pasta - and this was my least favorite dish - as i don't prefer any type of pasta smooshy.

london broil, sauerkraut-filled pierogies, and beatles music at the tomato fest? puh-leeze. obviously people enjoy it, and there is plenty of good food still (sopresatta sandwiches from sabatelle's were out of this world) but i don't think i'll be returning next year.

the facebook album is here.

so last weekend we went to harrisburg...

this trip primarily involved checking out the hardware bar, which of course is opening this thursday in downtown wilkes-barre. ron, who ranks in the top three when it comes to genuine, nice bar owners that i've met, owns two others in the harrisburg area.

of course, we also had our own hotel rooms. a.j., marino, myself, and danny waters. each with our own.

that alone = a cause for celebration.
okay, fine. we'll break out the cheap champagne.

wyclef for ballers. wycliff for radio dj's.
anywho, there are so many other pictures, videos, voice mails and stories. none of which are appropriate for this blog.
needless to say, we had ourselves a little fun in the Keystone State's capital.

fat tuesday proves rather skinny...

why dance around it - northeast pa simply didn't live up to my expectations on mardi gras.

i thought about it last night towards the conclusion of my show - many colleges, nice weather, no midterms/exams... this should shape up to be an intriguing night.

the show ended just shy of midnight. i jetted home, grabbed a bud light from the fridge, gathered up beads from a club gig in syracuse, and waited for marino to swing through. due to the proximity of our first destination from my apartment, he became the night's driver by default.

and the beads were just for show - these things were two years old. our first and back-up plans consisted of bars, and i'm taken. so clearly, even if i did part with any plastic necklaces, i wouldn't have made any girls "work" for them (typing that made me feel dirty).

marino though... well, why would i speak for him?

beer boys it was. best college bar for two years straight in the weekender. right by king's. your classic beer-serving establishment.

my introduction to the dive wasn't flattering. we were one and done from bb.

although, the staircase to the immediate left of the entrance and the trap door inside the small, enclosed bar were quite amusing.

i think a bunch of rowdy college drunks could turn the spot into a fun time - and i look forward to a possible return on a friday or saturday. but fat supa dupa tuesday night just wasn't meant for beer boys.

next stop: friday's. the back-up plan. the go-to-bar in the wilkes-burr. and it was dese. made it in time for half price apps - and after a couple order of boneless buffalo wings, extra crispy - paired with a game of beer pong on the video touchscreen - we deemed the night a "non-failure."

but eventful? far from it. maybe i should've taken advantage of those fat tuesdays i spent on the su hill...

MARDI GRAS - where are youuuu goinnggggg?

marino and i, and maybe aj, and possibly even danny waters if he so decides to pick up his phone - are looking for a place to party tonight for mardi gras. where will the big mardi gras celebration in nepa be taking place? we'd prefer somewhere in the greater wilkes-barre area - but if you could guarantee me the place is poppin', i'll drive to scranton... possibly even dickson city.

answering this question could score you a couple free drinks and perhaps even a quick mention on the radio. i didn't just type that.

i am in favor for super bowl monday.

don't get me wrong, i didn't party too hard last night. i've drank and eaten much more during and after yankees victories (11 days til pitchers and catchers report!). still, it's the super bowl. and for the first time in three years, i didn't have to work through it.

why wouldn't i take full advantage of this situation?

marino and i headed inside the woodlands. besides the giants fans among us, there were the infamous buffalo bites, dj godfather's homemade (and free) pizza, and of course, dollar drinks from 7-9.

furthermore (and maybe the best part of the entire deal) - no mess to clean up afterwards.

so we cheered and jeered as the giants and patriots battled, and laughed in between at some of the commercials, all of which can be viewed here.

a few of my personal favorites can be viewed below...
Justin Timberlake's PEPSI Superbowl Commercial

Diet Pepsi Max Super Bowl Ad: Wake Up People Ginseng & Caffeine

Doritos Super Bowl Commercial: Giant Mouse Trap

Gatorade G2 Super Bowl Commercial: Derek Jeter

for the most part, this year's super bowl commercials were entertaining.

although, for everyone sitting in the streamside, we only needed to see this to make our nights...

and with that, a great start to new england's sports year. now, on to the point of this post.

go here, and sign the petition. who wouldn't be in favor of a national holiday the day after the super bowl?

free krispy kreme donuts.

the salary is irrelevant when job perks include free krispy kreme donuts...
who says late night trips to sheetz can't be rewarding?
and for the record, marino and i did not steal this. the fluffy pastries of sacredness were given to us.
seriously though, have you even warmed one up in the microwave for :08? it'll cause all distractions and worries to immediately vanish.

the bht baltimore drive office olympiad.

don't be fooled by my commentary, this is only round 1 - but round 2 of the game. marino up 1-love.

we have sweet jobs and endless amounts of time. or perhaps the complete contrary.

so much chaaaannnngeeee!

okay a couple things before i resume posting about relevant celebrities and other happenings...
- have you been to the new 97bht.com? it's pure hotness. you should really click around for fifteen minutes, i guarantee an hour later you'll be im'ing your friends the link.

- just finished up an appearance for the lovely people of keystone community resources - at bennigans in clarks summit. mucho gracias to all who showed up, as well as to the bennigan's staff... i'll let you know how my turkey sandwich is later in the night.

- this weekend marino and i hit up iron skillet inside the petro truck stop. what an experience. i left without pictures, but with two skillets of food in my stomach and a steak sauce in my pocket. what... wait... nevermind. that story is on its way as well.

- yes, britney spears may actually care about her kids.

- have you heard the new voice guy on bht? bow-chicka-wow-wow. listen tonight.

my first youtube reaction video : soulja boy - yah.

marino and i were bored, yet laughing histarically at this. out came the digital camera, and up went the spontaneous reaction to soulja boy's new ridiculously-infectious video.

sunday night, friday's on kidder, and lifehouse...

the following is an excerpt from "the ralphie report" that will be printed this wednesday in the weekender.
---

Thank goodness for BlackBerry’s, Google, and Sunday nights in Wilkes-Barre.

Afternoon-ace A.J., Midday-mogul Marino, and I all ventured to T.G.I. Friday’s on Kidder Street. Marino and I sought out reduced prices on spirits and greasy appetizers. In the act, we simply coaxed A.J. into joining in.

The three of us bantered about a number of subjects, with Monday’s acoustic performance of Lifehouse inside The Mall at Steamtown dominating the discussion. Coincidentally enough, we heard First Time blaring over the bar speakers as we discussed the Malibu, California-based band.

Immediately after that – the group’s latest track – Whatever It Takes – played throughout Friday’s. I observe two guys on my right, whose attire doesn’t exactly scream, “NEPA.”

My BHT cohorts vehemently deny that there’s any possibility rock stars are drinking amongst us. I dissent, and decide to end the matter in a twenty-first century manner.

Google Image Search via BlackBerry led us to Bassist Bryce Soderberg and Drummer Rick Woolstenhulme, Jr., who were flattered we recognized them. The men comprise two-thirds of Lifehouse - lead singer and guitarist Jason Wade decided to rest in his hotel room.

For the record – national recording acts play their own music on jukeboxes in bars.

A couple rounds, boneless wings, and games of music trivia later – Rick retired to bed, while Bryce rolled with us to Mohegan Sun – offering up the “rockstar” moment of the night.

“Wait, I thought I was betting $10, not $50. Oh well,” the bassist nonchalantly stated in between hands of video Blackjack.

Bryce confessed earlier in the night that he and Colbie Caillat engaged in a summer fling while the two acts toured with headliner Goo Goo Dolls. According to Soderberg, Caillat broke his heart.

I guess the former tanning salon attendant doesn’t leave everyone feeling Bubbly.

randomness from the panera.

greetings.

i feel like it's been too long since i've had a post that really didn't serve a single purpose - but instead kind of touched a number of different thoughts. now that i'm nessled into a comfy panera booth, let me welcome you inside my deep, inner thoughts...

- this really isn't that much snow. how come at noon i couldn't drive half of the speed limit ANYWHERE? 81, 309, 115, wilkes-barre blvd... killin' me smalls!

- in case you're wondering what my current panera office configuration is... half greek salad, bowl of low-fat chicken noodle, bottle of water - and of course the lapteeze and blackbleeze!

- of course i'd be remiss if i didn't mention the new bht lineup - with kidd kraddick from 5a-10a, marino til 3 while you work, a.j. in the afternoon til 7, and myself til midnight. how pimp right?

- once again big thanks to everyone who came out to see drake bell last weekend. more of your photos will be posted soon here.

- NO - THE JONAS BROTHERS ARE NOT COMING TO THE MALL AT STEAMTOWN. gotta love wishful thinking high schoolers who start rumors with my name on them.

i'm going to return to my regularly scheduled browsing and grubbing. more updates on the way...

ralphie.

final fob video - the staff's thoughts...

marino, justin bryant, and i all share our thoughts in a not-so-serious way about tuesday's stop of "the young wild things tour" in philly.
