The green placards with white lettering were clear, but you didn’t have to spot one to understand the message. Northeast PA is “Clinton Country”. Last Saturday, Democratic Presidential candidate Senator Hillary Clinton turned all of downtown Scranton into her City Hall.

But don’t worry, her opponent, Senator Barack Obama, isn’t ready to concede NEPA just yet.

Clinton walked the entire route – over 3,000 feet – flanked by Governor Ed Rendell and Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty. The entourage traveled with a Secret Service motorcade on all sides, and the Bricklayers Union International following it all.

Senator Obama didn’t walk in the parade; however Max Kennedy, son of Robert F. Kennedy, represented him.

But it was Senator Clinton who crisscrossed Wyoming, Lackawanna, and North Washington – signing autographs, posing for cell phone photos, and hugging supporters. She engaged the tens of thousands, bluntly pleading, “I need you! I need you!” as she made impressions with the young and old.

“It feels great to be back, I love being in Scranton,” Senator Clinton told me in between shaking hands in front of the reviewing station. Clinton, like me, walked in the parade for her first time Saturday.

The presidential candidate wasn’t the only politician exuberant with the Electric City.

“I was in Pittsburgh, and that parade was high-spirited and well-attended,” said a semi-exhausted Governor Rendell, who walked in both parades alongside Senator Clinton. “But (the Scranton parade) was off the charts.”

Many young voters are backing Obama. His supporters were active and vocal. The younger activists held signs that read, “O’Bama” and screamed his name in competitions with chants of “Hil-a-ry!”

On Monday, the Junior Senator from Illinois gave his supporters another reason to chant. Obama greeted supporters for about a half-hour inside Whistles Pub & Grill on Monday.

“Hey, how’s everyone doing? Next round’s on me!” Obama enthusiastically shouted to the crowd, standing room only in the front section of the bar.

Then the “Barack-star” did what he does best - conversing with older women, consoling a veteran without disability, and taking photos with wide-eyed teenagers.

“I love Scranton!” Obama replied when asked about the area. “I wish I could just sit here and have a pint, not campaign too much. But I have work to do.”

After the meet-and-greet, Senator Obama ducked into the back room of Whistles. MTV News taped a town hall meeting with Obama and young war veterans, moderated by Sway. The event will be aired on MTV Thursday night. Later in the evening, the Democratic delegate leader spoke inside The Radisson at The Society of Irish Women’s annual dinner.

This certainly won’t be the last we see of either candidate or their family in NEPA. President Bill Clinton is scheduled to host a late afternoon rally inside James M. Coughlin Junior/Senior High School on Wednesday. Meanwhile Obama supporters believe he’ll return to the area as Pennsylvania’s April 22 primary date nears.

so last weekend we went to harrisburg...

this trip primarily involved checking out the hardware bar, which of course is opening this thursday in downtown wilkes-barre. ron, who ranks in the top three when it comes to genuine, nice bar owners that i've met, owns two others in the harrisburg area.

of course, we also had our own hotel rooms. a.j., marino, myself, and danny waters. each with our own.

that alone = a cause for celebration.

okay, fine. we'll break out the cheap champagne.

wyclef for ballers. wycliff for radio dj's.

anywho, there are so many other pictures, videos, voice mails and stories. none of which are appropriate for this blog.

needless to say, we had ourselves a little fun in the Keystone State's capital.

so i went to syracuse two weekends ago...

every year, a number of radio geeks decend upon the SU hill for the annual wjpz alumni banquet. it's an all around great time - you catch up with old friends, network, catch an orange basketball game, and drink.

yes, and you drink... did i mention drink?

seriously though, this year would be my fifth banquet, and the one looked forward to since sophomore year, as this is the first time i would attend banquet as both a z89 and su alum. my second through fourth banquets were filled with a minimal amount of awkwardness because i had only completed one year of Z, with hot 107-9 stealing me away at the beginning of my second year at syracuse.

in addition, this would be the first alumni event that a date would accompany me for - of course, my girlfriend angela.

the day started on a down note. ang and i were slow to arrive at the carrier dome for the orange's noon-time start against pitt. and then, well we all know how that ended.

but things started to improve before i even left the dome. i ran into my uber-mentor, dr. wright, as well as good friend, popular newhouse alum, and espn broadcaster sean mcdonough.

after a quick walk back to the sheraton, the gf hit the sheets to catch up on shuteye. i met up with my friend julie from atlantic records and her friend ty, and walked over to the z89 studios, located in the comfortable confines of watson hall.

i thought i had it good as a freshman... these kids have the most high-tech equipment out there. the z89 studios are much more advanced than the bht world headquarters, from the digital boards and software to the three sony video cameras, complete with remote controls and an lcd monitoring board.

just sounds sick, right?

after hopping on the air for literally, a hot second, julie and i walked over to chuck's, where i was greeted with a number of familiar employee faces, a number of fellow disappointed orange fans, and thankfully, a number of draft beers available via pitchers.

of course, i can't forget former college roommate sam, now living in washington d-sizzle. seriously, this story would be way cooler without that game that just happened an hour ago.

after a three-hour frosted beverage marathon, with a halftime appearance by the notorious hawaiian ryan, we headed back to the sheraton. afterall, i did have a 7pm alumni banquet to attend.

more drinking, catching up with friends, awful food... i mean, GREAT food.... a little more drinking... a right-on-key keynote address from z alum and new york sports talk show host craig carton (despite his blatent diss of buffalo women, while i sat there with my girlfriend).

don't say i didn't take full advantage of the fact that i had returned to my old stomping grounds, with no where to drive and a hotel room.

okay, the rest of the night entailed a trip to senior-bar faegans, a return to chuck's, and a final stop, via limo, to an afterparty that had more or less emptied out. so, let's just fast forward to 11a on sunday, when i woke up, sans the hangover.

ang and i met patrice (now a sophomore, responsible for those msnbc segments) downstairs at rachel's for brunch. of course, i'd be remiss if i traveled to central new york and didn't visit with my aunt and cousins in liverpool. finally, almost everything we set out for accomplished, we hit the road.

as you may or may not be able to tell, i enjoyed my trip back to syracuse. i carried more good than bad memories away from the three-one-five after four years on the grind there. when you invest so much - monetarily, physically, emotionally - in one place, it's hard to forget and easy to look back and reminisce on the times that were.

that is of course, those times that you can remember.

holy crazy 24 hours hillary clinton!

well let me tell you - i've learned so much about presidential elections, how our country works, the media, and northeast pa in the past day.

and technically, my day is far from over.

i'll proceed to update the blog with some missing photos/stories from the past two weekends, spent in syracuse and harrisburg respectively. then, i'll flood you with a copious amount of content from yesterday's rally inside scranton high school with senator and presidential hopeful hillary clinton.

Anticipation building...

Senator Hillary Clinton is five minutes away from her scheduled start time.

Music just cut.

People are just now being allowed to sit in the upper balcony of the gymnasium here at Scranton High. A number of political dignitaries continue to make their way to reserved floor seats.

This SHS chorus group is pretty tight. They've been singing non stop for almost an hour now.

I know Sen. Obama's strength is young people, but there sure is a nice mix of young and old here. Of course, skewed older, but nonetheless.

With a Clinton interview highly unlikely, I'll be targeting Scranton Mayor Chris Doherty. Stay tuned...

Sen. Hillary Clinton is in Northeast PA. The media contingent alone is impressive. Over 12 live trucks, from all the major networks and surrounding areas : Philly, Lancaster, Syracuse...

Looking like no media time with Sen. Clinton. Apparently her camp doesn't want to infiltrate the news cycle currently created by New York State Governor Eliot Spitzer (Google his name for the dirty details).

Press contingent is growing larger. Her bus has arrived. Almost go time here in the gymnasium of Scranton High School.

10 ways to catch him cheating...

an fyi, just in case you're trying to break free from that relationship of yours...

"...There are 3 areas that you can see a possible change - his personal behavior, his phone behavior and his computer behavior.

1. Check his cell phone bill. Is there suspicious numbers with long duration, that he is doing after just leaving your house or just before coming home in the evening, that could be a sign of cheating.
2. Check his credit card statement. Are there amounts that you do not know about that seem suspicious restaurant visits, hotel nights or travels. Is there any gifts purchased for a women, lipsticks, jewelry, flowers... but you did not receive the gift.
3. Go through his wallet for unexplained receipts. Usually cheating men has a lot of cash on them, they do not want to leave trace on the credit card statement.
4. Check his ATM withdrawals, is he carrying a lot more cash than usual. Check the transaction record for where and when he took money out. Should he be somewhere else when the withdrawals are done?
5. Check the mileage on his car. His driving pattern might change, is he putting a lot of extra miles on the car. Is he spending more money on gas, than usual? Monitor your husband or boyfriend for a couple of weeks. Keep track of the mileage. Also monitor when he leaves for work and comes home from work.
6. Does he say that he has to work overtime? Check his paycheck is the overtime not showing up on his paycheck... this is a sign.
7. Check the phone. Press the re-dial on his phone or "star"69. This way you can see who he has been calling.
8. If you suspect that the cheating might even be going on in your own home. Make false plans to go out of town, stay with a friend or at a hotel. Then watch your house from a distant. Have a non-violent plan for what you want to do if your nightmare does come true. Be smart about it.
9. If you have a phone number that you would like to know whom that belongs to use a phone lock up service. It will give you the name, address and personal information.
10. Computer spy ware, if you think your husband is chatting or emailing somebody he is not suppose to install a spy ware program that monitors all computer and internet activities, it will tell you what sites he has been on, who he is emailing, what is in the emails..."

dr. roosevelt "rick" wright is a mentor of mine.

i met the professor of television, radio, and film in the beginning of my freshman year at syracuse university. after attending the newhouse school of public communications convocation, i soon realized that if you wanted to learn radio, you wanted to befriend dr. wright. after all, he's the only professor currently working in commercial radio, hosting a sunday afternoon show on WPHR-FM - Power 106.9.

he helped me get my foot in the door, literally, at clear channel radio in syracuse, ny. the advice and insight he's shared with me, both on a personal and professional level, are priceless.

i couldn't have asked for a better person to lead me through the successes and failures, as well as the trials and tribulations of starting a career in broadcasting.

on sunday, dr. wright uncharacteristically did not arrive at the clear channel syracuse studios on time for his 1PM show. coworkers, friends, and family tried to contact him, but to no avail, no one knew where the doc was.

turns out, dr. wright had enlisted the help of medical doctors. after slipping and falling on a brick walkway outside of the building, doc suffered an asthma attack. he crawled to his car, climbed inside, and drove himself to a hospital.

after being released from the medical center, dr. wright drove back to clear channel. expecting many guests during his show, as well as questions from a worried staff, the good doctor wanted to make sure all loose ends were tied up, as if expected to tie those ends immediately after his release.

although shocking and unfortunate, this story isn't surprising to those who are close with dr. wright. he loves radio, and he loves people. furthermore, doc's will and fortitude have been tried and tested on many occasions. he's a retired navy captain, and was the first african-american professor hired to the newhouse staff.

thankfully, dr. wright is okay and now resting comfortably. i'm gratefulness to God that no further physical harm was caused by the accident. and i'm reminded how strong the person i leaned on the most during college is, both figuratively and literally.

"Hey guys,
As most of you already know, we have cancelled the rest of our UK/Europe RIOT Tour. First of all, we want to say we are so sorry for letting all of you down. We feel terrible about it and really didn’t expect for this to happen. It probably doesn’t sound like much but we just hate that we won’t get to play this show for those of you who had hoped to see it.

There are a lot of internal issues that have been going on in this band for quite a while now. A lot of it started right around the time we were gearing up for the RIOT Tour in the US. We were able to fight through all of it for this long but unfortunately we weren’t able to keep it together long enough to make it through ’til the end of this tour. We really feel that taking this time is going to give us a chance to get away and work out our personal issues at home and on our own terms. We just aren’t willing to risk the life of our band over one tour. That probably sounds terrible right now, to say that finishing a week of shows wasn’t worth it… but if we can use this next month wisely then we will be a lot healthier for the tours ahead. We hope that - even though it might be hard to understand - that you guys can support us at this time.

Maybe one day we will tell the whole story but for now, just know that all five of us are going to work so hard to get it right. You deserve that and we deserve to make this last as long as possible - and to enjoy every second of it. We love you guys so much. If you could pray for us or just keep us in your thoughts it would be really helpful. You guys have gotten us so far and been the best motivators since day one. We are so sorry for the trouble we caused you guys who bought tickets, fan club members and to all the promoters and venues that we won’t be there to put on a show for. We are extremely sorry to New Found Glory and all their fans who wanted to put on and see a show and who we’ve let down. And lastly, to Lost Alone.
