In an exclusive interview on "The Ralphie Radio Show" after his performance Sunday evening at Marywood University, Ryan Cabrera revealed that he is still dating "The Hills" cast member Audrina Patridge. "You know how the media is, they'll take whatever they want and have a hay-day with it," replied Cabrera after I brought up stories that emerged from the couple's trip to Las Vegas over the past week. Various sources cited the two headed to "Splitsville" after both were seen in public without the other. "I think people use that stuff as entertainment, but they should also know that it's just a bunch of crap."
Cabrera chuckled when I mentioned that watching this upcoming season of the MTV reality show would have been awkward if the two were in fact broken up. The singer is featured in the trailer for the final run of episodes, set to premiere Tuesday, April 27. After mentioning that he likes to keep his personal life just that, I asked him if he was not single, to which he answered, "Me? No, I'm not." --- Listen to the full interview below:
--- The couple created quite a stir on the campus of Marywood, a small Catholic school in Scranton, Pa. with an enrollment just over 3,000. Cabrera is in the midst of about 15 hand-selected dates, as he prepares for his return to a major record label. After selling over two million copies of Take It All Away, and about a half million with You Stand Watching, Cabrera left his trademark spiky hair and deal with Atlantic Records behind. In 2008 he released The Moon Under Water, an independent project that only moved 15,000 units. Now after a couple years of touring and writing, the singer seems poised to jump back on the radio airwaves and sales charts. He even brought back the spikes, ditching his long hair and mustache.
"The last record was just kind of like a darker period, where I was just trying to rebel against my record label," admitted Cabrera. "I think (the new release) will be a lot more like the Take It All Away record." Don't worry, if you're wondering what Cabrera's latest project will sound like, you won't have to wait too long: Ryan revealed that the first single from his forthcoming LP could hit radio as soon as this summer, with a 2011 release planned for the entire album.
Cabrera did say this album would not be released independently, although declined to say which record label he would land with, only noting that he is still in talks "different labels."
It’s been quite the 2009 for The Veronicas, and the year is only half complete.
The first six months have catapulted Jess and Lisa Origliasso, twin sisters from Australia, in to the American public eye. Surely no one in the mainstream media noticed the duo this much since Lisa dated Ryan Cabrera back in 2006. But now, The Veronicas are gaining attention in the States for all the right reasons – a hit single in “Untouched” – a cameo and performance in 90210 – and now a cross-country tour with opening acts Carney and The Pretty Reckless. Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen fronts the latter band.
This Saturday, that tour detours to the F.M. Kirby Center for 97 BHT’s Summer Jam 2009. Joining the three aforementioned acts will be Lesley Roy (“I’m Gone I’m Going”, “Unbeautiful”), Safetysuit (“Stay”), Jada, and Lovesick Radio, with Scranton’s own DJ Woogie in the mix all night long.
Jess Origliasso proved she could readily multi-task a few weeks ago, calling up "The Ralphie Radio Show" while shopping at a small boutique in Ohio.
“The audience is always very in to it, like everyone’s dancing along and sings along,” Jess explained of the live set – which will also include The Veronicas’ latest single, “Take Me On The Floor.” “It’s just a really, really good time.”
More than music is working in favor of the Origliasso twins. FHM recently placed the sisters at number two on their “Sexiest Women in the World” list, bested only by actress Megan Fox.
“We were six and seven last year, and we’re number two this year, so maybe we can kick Megan Fox off next year,” Jess hoped. “Although, (Fox is) pretty sexy, so it might be hard.”
Safetysuit missed out on any “sexiest lists”, but the band has cultivated diverse following through music that appeals to multiple radio formats. “Stay” is the break out mainstream song for the Oklahoma-based quartet.
”Nobody can figure it all out, but we can atleast try,” lead singer Doug Brown said of the song’s theme. “’Stay’ was an awesome song to write… it’s an emotion that everyone gets to go through.”
Brown also spoke on the band’s name, which started as, “The Crew.”
”Supposedly there’s some band called Motley Crew out there,” Brown joked, before explaining that Tommy Lee’s band successfully executed a cease and desist on “The Crew.” Another name, “The Safety”, also brought forth copyright issues, so finally the guys used a song called “Precious Suit” by Aqualung to finish out the new, legal name.
Tickets are still on sale for 97 BHT’s Summer Jam 2009, with ticket prices as low as $9.71 – yes, clever we are. --- Listen to The Ralphie Radio Show weekdays from 5-10 pm on 97 BHT.

Forget “Slim Shady” – will the real Ryan Cabrera please stand up?
Just two and a half years ago, Cabrera lived THE life – recording for a major record label, dating sexy starlets, traveling the sphere, and selling millions of CDs.
But the 25 year-old musician exited stage right from that lifestyle after separating with Atlantic Records. Cabrera traded his trademark dirty blond spikes for long, dark, curly strands. Gone are the preppy collars and trendy shoes, in are the rock star boots, top hats, and skinny jeans. And say goodbye to long sleeves – the solo artist loves showing off his tats.
“I’m not with the same record label anymore, end of story,” an almost-relieved Cabrera told me Monday inside The Woodlands Inn and Resort. “I finally got to do what I wanted to do.”
Cabrera is in the midst of a three-month trek across the country, stopping at radio stations to garner support for his new CD, The Moon Under Water, which hits shelves in April. The first single, a catchy mid-tempo track entitled Say, is impacting radio now.
Monday, the former major label act performed an acoustic set inside The Woodlands Streamside Band Area and offered 97 BHT listeners a chance to hear tracks from his soon-to-be-released CD – an LP that Cabrera invested more than time into.
“I spent my own money putting it together,” he admits. “It’s on my new label… Joe (Simpson) is helping me get it off the ground.”
Yes, that Joe Simpson. Father of Jessica and Ashlee – or as you may know the latter – Ryan’s ex.
“(Simpson as his manager) isn’t awkward,” Cabrera insists. “It’s all business.”
While Ryan dates Riley Keough, daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and granddaughter of Elvis – Ashlee now lip-syncs love songs to Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. Meanwhile Jessica is tied up in some capacity with Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo – a person Cabrera calls “his boy.”
No, the Dallas-born singer did not leave his manager messages instructing Jess to leave the QB alone.
“It’s just funny how people, you know, they want a story. Tony’s such an amazing quarterback, but all (the media) wants to talk about is that.”
He sees through the major record labels – the fake women – and the media. Formerly molded into a stereotypical pop star, it seems the real Ryan Cabrera may be among us after all, even if he took a few years to arrive.
