RRS EXCLUSIVE: Iyaz Reveals Miley Cyrus-Collab, Doesn't Know Who Leaked 'Solo'
In an interview on “The Ralphie Radio Show,” Iyaz revealed that he recently collaborated with Miley Cyrus in-studio.
“No, that was for her’s,” replied the singer, real name Keidran Jones, when asked if the track would be featured on his forthcoming album. Reprise Records’ Tommy Page confirmed that Iyaz’s debut LP, My Life, will hit stores April 27. The first single, “Replay” – not only topped the charts, but scored the Virgin Islands pop star some free product from Apple.
“They gave me some small little Shuffles that said, ‘Stuck On Replay’ on the back,” Iyaz divulged. On the hook of “Replay”, the crooner likens his unwavering love for a girl to his iPod being stuck on replay. “‘Replay’… all of my songs, if not most of ‘em, are based on true stories.”

Rotem remarked that he breathed a sigh of relief when the sample cleared, as the song leaked on to YouTube before clearance. Although Iyaz eventually sent the link out to his followers on Twitter, he denies actually posting the track.
“I was in Vegas… I went on my Twitter, and somebody posted, “Man, I just heard ‘Solo’ on the radio,” recalled Iyaz. “So, you know me. I went straight to YouTube, and there it is. I was like, ‘Wow!’ And I didn’t have it (yet).”
The singer said that a similar situation occurred with “Replay.” Surely Iyaz hopes the entire situation will rewind and playback – producing yet another number one hit for the twenty-one year old artist.

Did Nathaniel Motte and Sean Foreman need another reason to drink? Eh, probably not. But that doesn’t stop the band from turning March 3 in to an annual party day. Yes, the band 3OH!3 considers 3/03 its personal day of homage.
“You might as well create another drinking holiday for yourself,” Motte said on “The Ralphie Radio Show”, taking some time from the festivities to call in to “The RRS” on the band’s day of celebration. The group also planned a uStream chat with fans later. “There’s all those Hallmark holidays that they created, why can’t we make our own?”
Looking back on the band’s past 365 days, there’s a lot they can drink to. “Don’t Trust Me” hit the top of the radio charts over the summer – as Motte and Foreman toured the country headlining the Vans Warped Tour. Just a year prior, they played the festival in near-obscurity, covered in the shadows of other bands who were receiving mainstream radio love: We The Kings, Gym Class Heroes, and Katy Perry. 3OH!3 befriended the latter artist and received her help to in remixing its second single, “Starstrukk”.
Now, the Colorado natives prepare for a busy spring – a cross-country trek with Cobra Starship and Travie McCoy of the aforementioned Heroes. 3OH!3 is also in the studio finishing Streets of Gold, the follow-up album to Want. While all of this takes place, Ke$ha’s “Blah Blah Blah”, a track they’re featured on, climbs up the charts.

Working on the forthcoming LP prevented 3OH!3 from making it back to the 303 – Boulder, Colorado – Nat revealed that the group is currently in the studio with hit-maker Dr. Luke. Motte hopes to drop a single to radio right around the tour’s launch date, with an album release tentatively scheduled for late June.
And if you’re holding out for some type of last second surprise – an album release that coincides with Warped Tour dates – well, don’t hold your breath.
“Honestly, I’ve spent my last two summers in parking lots, so I’m a little excited to get out,” Nat admitted, while also crediting the summer shows with building their road experience. “It was a great tour for us man. We’ll miss it a little bit, but yunno, I think we’ll manage to have good shows and hopefully people that go to see ‘Warped’ will come to check us out.”

T.I. is recording material for a new album, and according to one artist he collaborated with, is in good spirits as he prepares new tracks for his forthcoming LP.
“Oh yeah, he’s definitely got a lot to prove,” remarked B.O.B. The Atlanta emcee is signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle label, distributed by Atlantic. “(He has) a lot of motivation.”
Authorities released the “Live Your Life” rapper from prison to a halfway house last December. T.I., real name Clifford Harris, is permitted to leave the house on weekdays for work purposes, but must return by evening. Jim Jonsin, who has produced a plethora of hits, including “Whatever You Like”, is also confirmed to be working on the project. T.I. will leave the halfway house on March 26.

The nine track LP includes the number one hit, "Whatcha Say", as well as "In My Head" and a few others that are sure to be instant classics. J.R. Rotem is the Executuve Producer of the project.
An iTunes Deluxe Version will include the acoustic remix of "Whatcha Say" along with a remix of "In My Head" and the music videos for both singles.

RRS EXCLUSIVE: Yung Berg Denies Assault Incident On 'The RRS'
Calling in to "The Ralphie Radio Show" yesterday amid reports that he had been pistol-whipped at a house party over the weekend, Yung Berg denied that the incident happened. The "Sexy Lady" rapper claims that he has been at The Palms in Las Vegas since last Friday, recording new material for a forthcoming LP due out later this year.
“Really, I don’t understand what that’s all about,” said Berg, real name Christian Ward. “I’ve been in Vegas, down here recording for the last five, six days. But I mean, I’ve seen people say so many different things about me or say different things about other artists that at that point man you just gotta take it with a grain of salt and keep it moving.”

According to the article, four men carrying weapons entered the party around 2:00 A.M., stealing $10,000 in cash and jewelry. TMZ reports that Berg was one of the people robbed and beaten.
Berg simply replied “Yeah” when asked later if he was denying that the reported incident on Monday happened. Brought up a third and final time in the interview, the rapper replied, “Nah, I’m safe and sound, lookin’ beautiful. You can check me out on YouTube if you wanna see me.”

Will.I.Am., the renaissance man and Black Eyed Peas lead emcee, is no stranger to viral videos. During the 2008 Presidential Campaign, two of his videos in support of candidate Barack Obama garned millions of views in days – helping our current president in spreading his message of “Hope” and “Yes We Can.” Both were hosted on Will’s Dipdive.com, a site that combines multimedia with social networking.
Turns out there are more than just viral productions of the political movement variety on Dipdive.com. “DipComedy” features contributions from a plethora of comedians. Sam Riegel is one of those contributors – and his latest piece is gaining a great amount of attention on the Intenets here.
“I’mma Hot Cheeto” is a three-plus minute rap, in which Riegel plays the role of emcee “Tigga Hoods.” Dressed in dark makeup, a black hat, black slacks, and a red golf polo shirt – Riegel parades around a golf course and a music video set with a number of scantily clad women. He rhymesabout being a heartbreaker, over a sample of “Eye Of The Tiger”, outfitted with clips of Woods’ infamous voicemail purchased by US Weekly.

'The RRS' Uploads Exclusive Jason Derulo Video To 'The World On Campus'
A good friend of mine, Patrice Innocenti, recently started a website called, The World On Campus. The website pools multimedia and stories from college campuses across the world on to one webpage. Check it out here.
We decided to throw Patrice a bone or two here at "The RRS" and hooked her up with some never before seen footage of Jason Derulo talking about "Whatcha Say" and his debut LP in studio. Check out the video below:
Patrice is a Broadcast Journalism major at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and graduates this May from Syracuse University. As a freshman, she helped launch the MSNBC On Campus program, which of course, landed both of us a little face time on the network.

RRS EXCLUSIVE: Kid Cudi Apologizes To Vancouver Student He Punched
In an interview on “The Ralphie Radio Show”, 20 year-old Michael Sharpe says Kid Cudi reached out to him and apologized for punching the college student at a show over two months ago in Vancouver.
The original incident stemmed from a concert on December 11 of last year in Canada. Cudi played two events that night – as main support for Lady GaGa’s Monster Ball Tour and a solo set at another venue. At the second performance, a fan threw a wallet on stage, at the emcee. Cudder sent the wallet back in to the crowd. Moments later, footage on YouTube shows Sharpe toss the wallet back on stage. He caught the pass from Cudi, felt back keeping the wallet, and gave it back. Immediately after, Cudi removed his in-ear monitors, hopped off the stage, and punched Sharpe in the face.
Last week, Sharpe was back in school from his home in the Philippines and studying in the library. Suddenly his phone rang; the number unknown. He picked up, only to find on the other end Kid Cudi’s manager. The person told Sharpe that within five minutes, Cudi himself would be calling. An hour passed, nothing.
Then, as Sharpe walked back from the library, his phone rang – a New York area number showed up on the caller ID.
“I’m just going insane, because I knew right off the bat it was Cudi,” Sharpe reminisced, calling in to “The RRS” from Vancouver after a late night of studying. “(Cudi) was just like, ‘What’s up? You’re a hard guy to get ahold of!’”

The college student decided that he never wanted to be “that guy” and press charges, or try to gain extra fame and publicity from the incident. He simply wanted people to know the truth, and for Cuddder to apologize.
“We spoke for like, 20 minutes,” continued Sharpe. “Like, straight up, a conversation I’d have with one of my friends. He was just really cool.”
Before the phone chat finished, Cudi extended more than just an apology to the 20 year-old.
“He was like, ‘Oh, is it okay if I fly you off to New York one of these days?’” Sharpe recalled, excited and stunned even as he retold the story. “’Yeah, you know, I gotta get back at you. You were all cool about the situation… I gotta fly you out.’”
Sharpe told me talking to Cudi on the phone was big enough – the pending trip is surreal to him. The emcee is currently in Australia and working on his second LP, but hopes to finally meet Sharpe soon after.
And yes, Cudi’s departure from GaGa’s tour, a story first reported on “The RRS”, did come up during their conversation. Sharpe would not divulge what was said – simply stating that the Cleveland-born artist did mention that the combination of a new album, his solo dates, and GaGa’s tour took its toll from a stress standpoint.

EXCLUSIVE: Kevin Rudolf On New Single/LP, Lil Wayne
Since the success of his debut single, “Let It Rock” – Kevin Rudolf’s fame and fortune have risen to new heights. In addition to preparing his sophomore LP, Rudolf now finds himself in demand as a songwriter/producer – working with some of the biggest names in the business. But the Cash Money artist is grounded – and very cognizant of his success due not just to his talent, but the popularity of his hit song.
“Once you have one big hit, you can walk through a wall that you could not get through before,” explained Rudolf, who called “The Ralphie Radio Show” from his Los Angeles home. “And don’t think I haven’t used it, because it’s like, if I want to get in the room with somebody and work on their project, on their record, I go after it too.”
Rudolf helped out on Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad” and tells me that he’s currently working with Natasha Bedingfield and Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo. The singer/songwriter started his career as a studio guitarist for producer Timbaland, working on all of his tracks – whether it be for Justin Timberlake, Nelly Furtado, or The Black Eyed Peas.

“He’s a pioneer – which is the greatest compliment you can give,” remarked Rudolf on Timbaland. The two haven’t collaborated with each other since Rudolf worked for him in studio – although they’ll occasionally run in to each other at shows/functions and exchange greetings. “He’s got the entire package – he’s such a talented guy.”
Rudolf finds himself surrounded by more talent now that he is a part of Cash Money Records. The stable, which also calls Lil Wayne and Jay Sean their own, has seen its share of success over the years. Now, as the label’s top money maker heads to prison, Rudolf reveals that Wayne is rapping, recording, and shooting videos right up until March 2 – when he’ll be sentenced to a year behind bars in conjunction with a plea deal over a weapons possession charge that stems from 2007. Rudolf says a single from Tha Carter IV could be released to radio during or shortly after Weezy’s prison term – which could be shortened to eight months on good behavior.
Before then – Wayne dropped Rebirth – an album Rudolf contributed to and calls “really dope.” The “Lollipop” rapper also dropped a verse for the first single from Rudolf’s new LP – “I Made It.”
“Birdman, he said to me, ‘Yunno, why don’t you make a record that everyone on Cash Money can get on,’” Rudolf said. “I just kinda whipped up this beat in like 20 minutes and threw the hook on it and sent it out to everyone. When it came back to me, I was like, ‘This thing is crazy!’”
The final version features Weezy, Birdman, and Jay Sean. The video is out now. Rudolf confirmed on “The RRS” that he is shooting for a May release on the album, but has yet to think of a title.

EXCLUSIVE: J.R. Rotem, Part 4 - Regrets How He Acted While Dating Britney Spears
There was a time in J.R. Rotem’s life, specifically December of 2006, when he fended off more paparazzi than producers. Over three years ago, Rotem worked in studio with Britney Spears, eventually producing the track “Everybody”, an iTunes/Japan bonus for her 2007 LP, Blackout.
But the photogs and gossip blogs were more interested with what the two did outside the studio. Pictures emerged of the couple cuddling, holding hands, and enjoying each other’s company. At the time, Rotem thought it was all meant to be. Looking back on the situation, the producer realizes it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, and even holds a few regrets.
“It was kind of a stupid phase I was going through, where I wouldn’t say that I was being a bad person but I would say that I was being not very genuine to who I am and what it is that I’m supposed to do,” remarked Rotem on that period of his career. Spears did not come up by name once in the final of a four part exclusive interview on “The Ralphie Radio Show.” But, Rotem produced every other piece to the puzzle.
“When somebody acts like that, or at least for me, some of it stems from insecurity,” the producer revealed, as he began to open up about his true feelings on the situation – now three years later. “Finally when you get some success (in the music industry), and you get some visibility and some money and things like that, it was almost like, I was trying to prove to myself and maybe to others, ‘Hey, I’m here,’… and it’s kind of a phase that I went through that I’m not proud of.”

“I don’t think that I did anything irreparable or harmed anyone, but I think what I probably did do is just kind of make a jackass out of myself for a few months there,” he continued – without pause – as if he wanted to get this off his conscience for a minute.
Sans Justin, Rotem probably has the most practical outlook on his relationship with Spears than any of her other ex-beaus. But what makes the producer unique is that in addition to coming to terms with his mistakes and moving on – Rotem is able to help his stable of young artists on his Beluga Heights record label by sharing his experiences, both good and bad.
“These artists that we sign, they’re very, very young. They go from not having a lot of money to having a lot of money and traveling the world, and the things that come with that,” said Rotem. “It’s kind of hard, not to get somewhat tainted by that. I try to give them the guidance that I can. But in the end, I feel like a person really has to go through their own process… there’s only so much somebody else can tell you.”
While speaking on that last point, Rotem referred to his phase as the time in his life when he wore sunglasses indoors, and was concerned with driving fancy cars. Somebody could have told him to knock it off (and he received plenty of criticism for it on the Internet). But for Rotem, he needed to experience it first hand, so that he could learn and move on. For it, he’s a better person, a more focused producer, and certainly less quick to judge when he spots someone rocking a pair of Ray-Bans in the dark.

J.R. Rotem breathed a sign of relief when he found out that Janet Jackson cleared the use of a sample from her 1993 number one hit, “Again” for the latest single from Iyaz, “Solo.”
“Unfortunately that song leaked before we ever solidified anything,” said Rotem. “In a way it was amazing; people really seemed to be loving the record, but yunno on another way, it’s not like we officially had mixed it or mastered it or gone for sample clearance or anything like that.”
Although it may be unclear as to who actually posted the track on YouTube, this much is known: Iyaz himself, as well as Sean Kingston, “tweeted” out the link to their followers, thus beginning the buzz on the song. Jackson did not speak with Rotem directly, but did offer a compliment on the final piece, in addition to clearing the sample.

Case in point: a track off of Jason Derulo’s self-titled debut, due out March 2, called “Ridin’ Solo.” The version on YouTube contains portions of The Verve’s “Bitter Sweet Symphony.” Rotem did not receive sample clearance from the band to use the track. Although disappointed, the song will still appear on the LP, with a different beat. It is not the first time the producer ran in to such an issue, and probably will not be the last.
“When you get creative, and you sample stuff, you don’t first get clearance,” explained Rotem. “There are certain cases, where people just aren’t interested… I actually can respect when they don’t want people to sample it... I can’t go in to it expecting that they are going to give me something that’s theirs.”
Rotem named Prince and The Rolling Stones in a list of different artists who are known not to offer sample clearance.

Sean Kingston is in the studio now, working on his third LP. But in an exclusive interview on “The Ralphie Radio Show” – producer J.R. Rotem reveals that he doesn’t know if he’ll be in the studio with Kingston this time around.
“I honestly don’t have any information on Sean in particular,” responded Rotem when I inquired about Kingston’s new project. “He’s still signed to Beluga Heights/Epic, but I haven’t worked with him in a while.”
The “Fire Burnin” singer confirmed on “The RRS” in November that he is working on new stuff, and even said at the time that he was working with Rotem – who originally discovered Kingston on MySpace. But since Kingston’s 2007 self-titled debut, it seems the chemistry between the producer and artist has faded.

“Truthfully, I don’t know if I’m gonna be, from a producer standpoint, working on the next album that he’s going to be doing,” said Rotem. “Me and Sean had a chemistry, a very strong chemistry on the first album. I ended up producing the entire album. On the second album, it was kind of a different vibe. I probably did about half that album. And I would say that at this point, he’s kind of doing his own thing on his third album.”
Rotem reiterated during our conversation that Kingston is still signed to his label, a dual venture with Epic, and that will not be changing in the immediate future.
“I honestly don’t have any information on Sean in particular,” responded Rotem when I inquired about Kingston’s new project. “He’s still signed to Beluga Heights/Epic, but I haven’t worked with him in a while.”
The “Fire Burnin” singer confirmed on “The RRS” in November that he is working on new stuff, and even said at the time that he was working with Rotem – who originally discovered Kingston on MySpace. But since Kingston’s 2007 self-titled debut, it seems the chemistry between the producer and artist has faded.

It’s a cool sound effect – and J.R. Rotem created it, and places it on some of the songs he produces, simply as a way to promote himself.
“These days, as you know, people are buying physical CDs less,” said Rotem in the first of an exclusive four-part interview on “The Ralphie Radio Show.” They buy iTunes stuff; they listen to things on YouTube. The days of people looking at liner notes on albums is kind of a thing of the past.”
So the stuttering “J.R.” sound effect was born. Although it graces some of his work, Rotem doesn’t use it on everything – citing Leona Lewis’s “Better In Time” as one track he felt it didn’t fit with. Radio stations also feel this way about some of his songs, creating custom edits for use on-air without the signature. But Rotem is just fine with that.

While they were at it, Kracker and Ralphie figured out they have the same birthday (June 6).

EXCLUSIVE: MTV To Angelina - No More Interviews!
She may have only appeared on three episodes of the MTV hit show, “Jersey Shore”, but it seems the network is protecting Angelina Pivarnick as if she is one of the station’s biggest assets. Pivarnick, like her former housemates, is currently making the rounds on the nightclub circuit, hosting parties for thousands of dollars.
“The Ralphie Radio Show” requested to speak with Angelina before her appearance Friday night at the Scranton Hardware Bar in downtown Scranton, PA. The agency booking Angelina denied the request, citing an MTV mandate that she is not allowed to do any type of interviews while on the road.
If anything, it is a keen marketing decision on MTV’s part. By Angelina not speaking with media, it only fuels the rumors and speculation as to whether she will return for season two of the show. Although, by going as far as to specifically state she cannot do media, you would think she’s returning, right?

EXCLUSIVE: Snooki Snags $5K For About 15 Minutes
The self-proclaimed “Princess of Poughkeepsie” extended her reign upstate over the weekend. Nicole Polizzi, better known as “Snooki” from MTV’s “Jersey Shore”, snagged just under $10,000 for two club appearances on Thursday and Friday in Western New York.
According to three different sources, speaking to “The Ralphie Radio Show” on the condition of anonymity, Snooki appeared early Friday morning at Whiskey River, a night club in Niagara Falls, NY. Patrons were charged up to $25 at the door for admission. The reality show star didn’t arrive until approximately 1:30 a.m., only showing face to the crowd for around 15 minutes. The appearance made her $5,000 richer.
Bars close in Niagara Falls at 2 a.m. on Thursday. Earlier in the evening, Snooki made a guest appearance at a teen night in nearby Rochester. The promoter, who was in charge of making sure Polizzi made the hour and a half commute, blamed the tardiness on inclimate weather.
The following night, Snooki hosted a party at Pure Nightclub, located in downtown Buffalo. Polizzi danced with friends and hosted a “best abs” contest. Although her appearance lasted about two hours, Snooki stayed at the nightclub until 4 a.m., which is last call in Buffalo, dancing and drinking with friends in a V.I.P. area.
Snooki flew cross country later that morning, arriving in Los Angeles to co-host MTV’s red carpet coverage of The Grammy's on Sunday.
